Biography

Gino Sfarra produces entirely hand-made violins, violas and cellos according to the traditional Milanese school of violin making, using his own models and the classic, traditional Italian oil-based varnish. On request, he also makes copies of antique and Baroque instruments. In his workshop, Sfarra caters to the needs of the musician, carrying out restoration work and repairs, as well as attending to general maintenance issues and set-up.

The Master completed his training at the Civic School of Violin Making in Milan, graduating with distinction. During his studies, he worked with masters Lorenzo Rossi and Stefano Gibertoni, under whose tutelage he was able to perfect his skills and experiment with his own style.

He currently works in L’Aquila, capital of the Abruzzo region, which is located around 100km from Rome and is surrounded by the ‘Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga’ National Park. The area was unfortunately struck by the earthquake of 2009.

Housed in a building of historical and artistic interest, his studio is located in a small area of the city centre that has been restored.

Gino Sfarra participates regularly in both national and international competitions, and exhibits his instruments at major international trade fairs.
